ADMISSION PROCESS TO THE POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM IN BIOLOGY

Admission requirements

  1.  1. Formal written support from a professor advisor who has the minimum academic degree of Magister Scientiae, by means of a letter of understanding detailing the commitments of both the professor and the student to guarantee that everything possible will be done for the research to be successfully completed. For consultation purposes on UCR professors, you can access on this page the list of professors and their areas of interest. Regulations: See Article 41 of the SEP General Regulations. For more details read the Biology Regulations, articles 4, 8 clause a.

Remember that:

    • Must have a minimum grade of 7.5, or its numerical equivalent, as a weighted average of concluded careers.
    • For the Master’s Degree in Biology, you must be available to carry out your academic plan at least half-time during the regulated period (Article 14 Regulations of the Graduate Program in Biology). In those cases in which the professor advisor considers it justified, the Commission may accept a student with less availability without prejudice to the stipulations of the above mentioned article.
    • In the case of the Master’s Degree in Biology with emphasis in Genetics and Molecular Biology, full-time availability is required.

2. Application for admission: Log into the system and fill in the required data.

The system will ask you to provide:

    • Copy of each of the university diplomas obtained.
    • Official certification of all grades obtained (courses earned, lost and validated) during your previous university studies (high school, undergraduate).
    • Official proof of grades or degrees obtained from the institution where you studied. (The documents must be originals, recent. In the case of foreign institutions, the certification must indicate the grading scale used in the country of origin).

Foreign students must send the apostille or authentication from the Costa Rican Consulate in the country of origin and, if applicable, an official translation of all the university documents mentioned above.

3. Three reference letters. The system will guide you through this process.

4. Copy of identity card (nationals), passport (foreigners) or valid dimex.

Attention: Applicants who have completed their studies, but have not yet obtained the diploma, may submit their application, subject their admission to the presentation of such document within the deadlines set by the Graduate Program in Biology. For this purpose, they must present a certification issued by their educational unit or center, indicating that they will complete their studies by December of the year in which they submit their application (See Article 27 of the SEP Regulations).
